What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam

What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam with our West Hollywood Optometrist

If you selected contact lenses as your corrective lens of choice, your eye doctor will help you learn how to appropriately utilize and care for your contact lenses. In addition, your optometrist will confirm that the contact lenses fit your eye properly, stay in place and bring your visual acuity to the proper level. Here’s what you can expect at your contact lens exam and fitting with our West Hollywood optometrists at Positive Eye Ons Optometry.

Contact Lens Eye Exam

Your optometrist will perform an eye exam to determine your corrective lens prescription strength and determine if you are a good candidate for contact lenses. Your eye doctor will check the health of your eyes and decide if soft or hard contacts would work best for you. During this check, your optometrist will measure the surface of your eyes and check your tear production to make sure you can tolerate contact lenses.

Education About Contact Lens Insertion, Removal and Care

After confirming you are a good candidate for contact lenses, you will learn about the proper technique to use for the insertion and removal of the lenses. You will learn how to hold the lenses in your hand, apply saline solution and insert each lens appropriately. Your optometrist will then lead you through the process of removal to ensure you can master this technique while still at the clinic. Throughout this procedure, we will help you learn about the core practices needed for the proper use of contact lenses.

Fitment Check by Your Optometrist

Your optometrist performs a fitment check to verify that the lenses fit on your eyeball appropriately. The lens needs to make full contact with your eye to keep your vision clear at all times. The fitment check will help you rest assured that your contacts will perform as expected every day as long as you complete the proper care steps.

If you are happy with your contact lenses, you can order more after the fitting appointment. You also have the option to wait if you are unsure about the lenses you have selected. A simple call or visit to our optometry clinic will enable you to make that order for new contact lenses at your earliest convenience.
